Press Release   •  Apr 13, 2016 08:00 BST

Panasonic has today announced that its UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player has been officially certified as ULTRA HD PREMIUM. This follows yesterday’s announcement by the UHD Alliance that it is expanding its Ultra HD Premium certification programme to also cover Ultra HD Blu-ray players andmeans that the UB900 has met the rigorous testing protocol set out by the UHD Alliance for Ultra HD Blu-ray players.

The UB900 now joins Panasonic’s VIERA DX902 TV which is also ULTRA HD PREMIUM certified. Both products together represent a comprehensive eco-system of next generation products for consumers who want to enjoy the very best quality 4K HDR content with the best equipment.

The UB900 will be available to buy in the UK stores from this week and Panasonic is currently giving away complimentary copies of the multiple Academy Award winning Mad Max: Fury Road and San Andreas to customers who buy the 4K blu-ray player.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is the next-generation video disc standard that not only delivers high-quality 4K-resolution pictures but also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) and the BT.2020 wide colour gamut.

The UB900 features a new 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor equipped with imaging technologies such as chroma processing and high gradation processing that have been fostered and refined by the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL) Blu-ray R&D facility.

By taking full advantage of the massive amount of Ultra HD Blu-ray data, the UB900 reproduces video images on a home TV that look exactly as their creators intended them to look.

Product summary

UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player: The best just got better

  • Blu-ray consistently delivered the best picture and sound performance for the HD age. Now Ultra HD Blu-ray is going to do the same thing for the 4K HDR age - especially when played on Panasonic’s uncompromising new UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
  • The UB900 leaves no stone unturned in its quest to make the most of every bit of the huge amount of data stored on an Ultra HD Blu-ray, using proprietary chroma and gradation processing which have been fostered and refined by Panasonic’s Hollywood Laboratory. This is to ensure that every last detail and tonal nuance a filmmaker wanted you to see makes it on to your TV.
  • The UB900 also refuses to compromise where sound quality is concerned, using hi-fi-quality components, separating out the video and audio handling, and supporting such high-resolution audio formats as DSD and ALAC on top of the more typical WAV/FLAC/MP3/AAC/WMA formats.
