13th March 2018: London, UK – VICE UK, the youth media brand, and Panasonic Lumix, a
global leader in consumer electronics, have partnered to launch ‘VICE Film School’, a UK-wide multimedia platform and talent programme dedicated to championing emerging documentary filmmakers. The new initiative seeks to discover original, exciting voices, and provide a launch pad for the next generation of world-class creators in need of industry support.
VICE and Panasonic - in a collaboration overseen by Vizeum and The StoryLab – today launch filmschool.vice.com , a new stand-alone platform and the digital hub from which ‘VICE Film School’ will provide ongoing advice, behind-the-scenes insight and how-to tips and tricks for every stage of the filmmaking process - all geared towards guiding and nurturing future documentary filmmakers.
How do you shoot a documentary in the midst of a chaotic street riot? How do you deliver a composed piece-to-camera while isolated on a snowy mountainside? Drawing from unique first hand experiences, original video strands and editorial content, ‘VICE Film School’ will go behind the scenes and get under the bonnet of some of VICE UK’s most successful films, alongside sharing practical advice and first-hand perspectives from entry-level researchers to executive producers. The site will additionally include access to the Panasonic Lumix ‘Kit Room’, a dedicated space designed to teach the nuts and bolts of shooting a documentary using a LUMIX GH5 camera and portfolio of lenses.
Supporting the platform’s launch, VICE and Panasonic’s Lumix will be inviting the UK public to apply for ‘VICE Film School’s’ talent programme, ‘WonderVisions Workshop’: a new scheme calling for short film pitch submissions from aspiring factual filmmakers. A panel of ‘VICE Film School’ judges, including VICE editorial staff, will then award one budding filmmaker the opportunity to create their first film, with the support and mentorship of established filmmakers, producers and editors and a production budget of up to £15,000.
‘VICE Film School’ will also award four commended entrants a full Lumix G camera package, including everything they need to start shooting their own films. Alongside the kit, these aspiring filmmakers will be invited to a one-day workshop at VICE covering how to use the equipment and a rundown of how to get their ideas off the ground.

WonderVisions: The Alec Bracegirdle Memorial Film Fund was founded after Alec, a young
filmmaker, died tragically on a shoot in August 2016. The initiative was subsequently
